According to Bruce Garrioch of the Ottawa Citizen, Linus Ullmark was pulled as a precautionary measure in last night’s 4-1 win over the Boston Bruins at TD Garden. The potential injury was undisclosed.
The 33-year-old goaltender, who made 10 saves on 10 shots in 40 minutes of ice time, had tweaked something, according to Senators head coach Travis Green. This came as a result of a collision with Bruins forward JJ Peterka towards the tail end of the second period. Peterka, while trying to evade Sens defender Thomas Chabot on the outside while entering the offensive zone. Chabot wrapped him up and took him down while in full momentum, was headed in the direction of Ullmark, who lowered his head after the instance.
Samuel Ersson entered the game to play the final period. He stopped eight out of nine shots, only allowing a turnover tally to James Hagens, his second career NHL goal.
Ullmark is in the second season of a four-year contract signed for $33MM total at an $8.25MM AAV, beginning last season, a deal signed shortly after Boston dealt him to Ottawa as he was in the final year of a four-year deal the Bruins had him on, paying $5MM AAV. The Swede posted a 28-12-8 record last season with a .891 save percentage and a 2.73 goals-against average in 49 starts. Despite the drop in Goals Saved Above Expected, falling from 13.84 in 2024-25 to a -12.81 last season, he has been a key part of this Sens squad, making the playoffs in both of his two seasons since joining the club.
So while his impact can’t be understated, it should go without saying that if this injury for Linus becomes extended in time, Ottawa will have to split the workload in the crease. Ersson, who was brought in after the Leafs acquired him from the Flyers, posted a -16.5 Goals Saved Above Expected, with a 3.12 goals against average and .870 save percentage. In 33 games, Ersson went 14-11-5 with Philadelphia in 2025-26. Their other notable veteran options are Jonas Johansson, whom they acquired from the Tampa Bay Lightning for Future Considerations. The 31-year-old went 11-10-2 with a 3.29 goals-against average and a .884 save percentage in 23 starts, 25 games last season for Tampa Bay and currently resides in AHL Belleville.
Ottawa plays Detroit on Tuesday night at Little Caesars Arena. On the second end of a back-to-back, the goalie room may see some shifts.
