Los Angeles Kings Captain Announces He Will Retire Following 2025-26 Season

The Los Angeles Kings are about to start the 2025-26 season. They will kick off their preseason schedule on Sunday night against the Anaheim Ducks. They will begin their regular season schedule at home on October 7 against the Colorado Avalanche. Today their captain Anze Kopitar announced that this season will be his final season in the NHL. Kopitar has been the Kings’ captain for the last nine seasons, this will be his tenth season leading the team. Kopifar has won two Stanley Cups with the Kings. Last season he had 67 points in 81 games on 21 goals and 46 assists. He was a +14 with four power-play goals and seven game-winning goals.

Anze Kopitar

The Los Angeles Kings drafted Kopitar 11th overall in the 2005 NHL Entry Draft. Kopitar has spent all 19 seasons of his NHL career with the Kings. In 1,454 games, he has recorded 1,278 points on 440 goals and 838 assists. He is a +108 with 124 power-play goals, 14 shorthanded goals, and 78 game-winning goals. He has won two Selke Trophies and has three Lady Byng Trophies. In 103 career Stanley Cup Playoff games, he has 89 points on 27 goals and 62 assists. He is a career plus-nine with seven power-play goals, two short-handed goals, and five game-winning goals.
