The Detroit Red Wings seemingly avoided a hit to their lineup as right-winger Lucas Raymond will be day-to-day after being injured during a recent game against the Toronto Maple Leafs. Raymond was hit by Maple Leafs defenseman Chris Tanev. Head coach Todd McLellan confirmed this after the team’s morning practice before their game against the Florida Panthers.

Raymond recently scored the 100th goal of his career against the Montreal Canadiens. Raymond is one of the most important offensive pieces for the Red Wings in the four seasons with the team. Rookie Emmitt Finnie will replace Raymond on the Red Wings’ first line, centered by Dylan Larkin, with Mason Appleton on the right wing.

Raymond seemed to injure his shoulder initially after falling during a game against the Montreal Canadiens. The Red Wings would go on to lose that game by a score of 5-1. A hit by Tanev exacerbated the injury. “We didn’t quit,” McLellan said about the last-minute win against the Maple Leafs. The Red Wings have won four straight games against the Maple Leafs, including two preseason games. Raymond will be a key piece for the team if they expect to get back to the Stanley Cup Playoffs for the first time in 10 seasons.
