Mammoth end rookie showcase with frustrating 4-0 loss

In the fourth and final game of the rookie showcase, the Utah Mammoth were handed an ugly 4-0 loss against the Los Angeles Kings.

The Mammoth didn't look the same without some of their top prospects.

Dmitri Simashev, Daniil But, Michael Hrabal, and Artem Duda watched in street clothes as the Mammoth couldn't get anything going.

Utah was a fragment of what it had been before this game. Unsurprisingly, without the leadership of some of those stars, both the defense and offense were disconnected and couldn't do much.

The Kings scored early with a shorthanded goal in the first period. Utah trailed the whole game as the forwards and centers couldn't create offense. Without Simashev, the defense looked disconnected and couldn't do what it needed to do to win.

Fortunately for Utah, this game was essentially meaningless, especially with players like Simashev, But, and Hrabal sitting the game out.

In the other two games, those players' leadership and skill made Utah look good and physical. Despite going 1-2, the Mammoth looked great overall in the rookie showcase.

The team can now shift its focus to training camp as it prepares for the beginning of the 2026-27 season. The season starts in only two weeks.
