Mammoth Prospects Player Profile: Maveric Lamoureux

The Utah Mammoth will rely on younger defensemen in 2026-27. One former first-round pick could be huge in taking the Mammoth's defense to the next level.

Over the offseason, Utah didn't add much to their defense corps. Why? Because of a prospect like Maveric Lamoureux.

Maveric Lamoureux Player Profile

Maveric Lamoureux was selected 29th overall in the 2022 NHL draft by the Arizona Coyotes. Lamoureux, 22, has appeared in only 20 NHL games, scoring one goal and adding three assists.

The Hawkesbury, Ontario, native brings a massive presence to Utah. Lamoureux stands 6'7", making him all the more intriguing. In the AHL in 2025-26, Lamoureux scored five goals and added 15 assists. It is clear that the defenseman wouldn't add much to Utah's offense - at least not as much as someone like Mikhail Sergachev.

Yet, with such size and physicality, Lamoureux's has a high ceiling as a defender. Sometimes, it is nice to have smaller, faster defenders who can be a hassle to deal with in the offensive zone, like Quinn Hughes and Lane Hutson, but it is also nice to have a strong, big defenseman.

Utah lost two key defensemen over the offseason: Sean Durzi (traded to the New York Rangers as part of the return for Vincent Trocheck) and Ian Cole (the only Mammoth player to have played all 164 games in Utah so far). The Mammoth did add Andrew Peeke to help replace those guys, but both Lamoureux and Dmitri Simashev (also a first-round pick) will be key in replacing that production.
