Mammoth Prospects Player Profile: Yegor Borikov

Typically, fourth round picks don't usaully make much noise. And they don't do so one year after being draft

But after flashing some nice potential in preseason and in the rookie showcase, Yegor Borikov looks like he might have a lot more potential than some might expect.

"A legitimate threat from a distance, Borikov's shot packs a lot of power. He makes his opportunities count, picking holes in the goalie’s coverage. He also displayed an ability to find soft spots in the offensive zone to catch passes and load up that release."

The Belarusian winger has been making noise in Utah's NHL camp and has earned praise from head coach Andre Tourigny. Last season in the KHL, Borikov scored 16 goals and added 30 assists in 59 games, showing his potential as an offensive force.

It wouldn't be surprising to see the youngster adjust to American hockey in the AHL. It would be a surprise to see Borikov reach the NHL soon, but he may be developing into that potential.

Unlike other prospects, Borikov isn't very big as he stands 6'1". But offensively, Borikov looked deadly in his action in Utah.

If he keeps flashing that deadly potential, Utah fans may see Borikov in the NHL sooner rather than later. At least, though, seeing this steal of a draft pick do well is good. GM Bill Armstrong seems to be especially talented at, well, selecting talent.
