The identity of the team in Salt Lake City has added more lore.

On Wednesday, the Utah Mammoth revealed the franchise’s new mascot, Tusky.

In line with the team’s logo and image, Tusky is a 6-foot-5 Mountain Blue mammoth, paying tribute to the creature that once roamed the area 10,000 years ago. The mascot itself has blue fur, white tusks and a blue trunk. Tusky will be donning Utah’s black jersey with a No. 1 on the back.

Mammoth owners Ryan and Ashley Smith are excited to introduce the new member to the franchise’s fan base.

Mammoth owners release statement

“We named the Utah Mammoth mascot Tusky to lean into our team’s ‘Tusks Up’ rallying cry,” the owners said in a release. “Tusky is going to be a big part of our community, creating memorable experiences in and out of the arena. Fans can expect to see Tusky everywhere – from Mammoth games and team events to community gatherings, schools, and hospitals. We are excited for fans to get to know Tusky this season.”

Tusky’s fur further represents the rugged terrain of Utah, blending seamlessly with the team’s colors.

After playing one season under the name “Utah Hockey Club,” the organization revealed the team’s new nickname this past May. It came after over 850,000 fans voted in four rounds of a name-the-team contest. The Mammoth kept the colors that it wore in its first season after moving from Arizona.

After a promising first season in Salt Lake City, the Mammoth are hoping to improve throughout the 2025-26 season. With stars like Clayton Keller, Logan Cooley and Mikhail Sergachev, Utah has the pieces to make an honest run at a spot in the Stanley Cup Playoffs.

The Mammoth (1-2-0) is currently facing the Calgary Flames. They will next be in action on Friday against the San Jose Sharks.
