The Utah Mammoth continue to add to their roster as they look to build the organizational depth necessary to contend for the Stanley Cup.

After taking big swings on July 1, signing free agent winger Anders Lee and acquiring top-six center Vincent Trocheck in a blockbuster trade with the New York Rangers , Mammoth general manager Bill Armstrong made a move for more depth on the back end on Friday, signing Andrew Peeke to a one-year contract with a salary cap hit of $1 million.

“Andrew is a big, mobile defenseman that brings depth to our blue line,” Armstrong said via the team’s press release. “He’s a smart player with offensive upside, and we’re happy to add him to the club.”

Peeke, a 28-year-old who was chosen with the No. 34 overall pick in the second round of the 2016 NHL Draft by the Columbus Blue Jackets, has spent the entirety of his NHL career with the Blue Jackets and Boston Bruins, where he played the past three years.

A six-foot-three right-handed blueliner, Peeke appeared in 77 games with the Bruins during the 2025-26 campaign, scoring five goals and dishing out nine assists for a total of 14 points while skating to a minus-6 rating on an average of 19:23 of time on ice per game.

Utah has minutes available on the right side, as Armstrong sent Sean Durzi to the Rangers as part of the trade package that allowed him to land Trocheck.

The Mammoth now have just four defensemen making more than the $1 million Peeke will cost against the cap, including Mikhail Sergachev, MacKenzie Weegar, John Marino and Nate Schmidt, so while Peeke’s cap hit may be in line with what a No. 7 defenseman would make, it’s easy to see opportunity for him to play a major depth role, especially with Utah having just $3.7 million in space under the upper limit of the salary cap, according to PuckPedia.
