The Utah Mammoth officially introduced their new mascot, Tusky the Mammoth, ahead of Wednesday’s home opener against the Calgary Flames at Delta Center.

The six-foot-five blue woolly mammoth made his debut, emerging from a block of ice before puck drop, drawing loud cheers from the home crowd.

Owners Ryan and Ashley Smith said the mascot’s name ties directly into the team’s “Tusks Up” rallying cry.

“Tusky is going to be a big part of our community, creating memorable experiences in and out of the arena,” they said in a statement to NHL.com. “Fans can expect to see Tusky everywhere — from Mammoth games and team events to community gatherings, schools, and hospitals.”

The unveiling marks the latest milestone for a franchise still carving out its identity after relocating from Arizona last season and playing as the Utah Hockey Club throughout he 2024-25 campaign.

Utah rebranded as the Mammoth in May after four rounds of fan voting, collecting more than 850,000 submissions.

The mascot itself is a nod to Utah’s prehistoric past, when real mammoths roamed the region over 10,000 years ago, as told by the Mammoth PR team in the official statement announcing the rebranding.

Tusky’s introduction kick-started a winning effort by the Mammoth, who defeated the Flames 3–1, improving to 2–2–0 in four games before hosting the San Jose Sharks on Friday at 9:00 p.m. ET.

The public reaction to the mascot's unveiling on X came with all sorts of messages, ranging from warm welcomes to creative criticism.

“Hey there fur-friend!” wrote one person. Another user, called Tusky “instantly one of the best in the NHL.”

An account admitted, “Ok, that’s a sick mascot I can’t lie,” while another praised the introduction, writing, “That was quite the entrance Tusky! Welcome to the NHL.”

Others offered a lighter take on the newest member of the NHL family.

“Gritty vs Tusky. Book it,” one user wrote, bringing up the Flyers' mascot. Another one doubled down on that, writing, “-110 odds for him in a boxing match against @GrittyNHL.”

Some poked fun at the design, with one person writing, “The Mohawk absolutely ruins it,” and another one asking, “Why not name him ‘Wooly’?”

One person thought the Mammoth should have kept it simple with the mascot's name. “Wooly’s better,” the user posted.
