D Dakota Mermis has been recalled from the Toronto Marlies (AHL).
Tanev, 35, was discharged from the hospital on Sunday and was returning to Toronto. He was stretchered off the ice in the third period after colliding with Flyers forward Matvei Michkov. Michkov was given an interference penalty on the play.
Tanev, who is signed on a six-year, $27 million contract, has two assists in eight games this season, with a plus 5 rating.
Coach Craig Berube said Tanev was moving and speaking after the hit.
"He's just getting some more tests done now," Berube said to the media after the game. "He's moving and I think he'll be all right. But he's getting some tests done right now, so we'll know more in a little while."
Captain Auston Matthews said it was hard to see and sounded concerned for Tanev.
"Anytime they're bringing out a stretcher, it's never a good feeling deep inside," Matthews said. "So, we're all obviously thinking about him and praying for him and hoping for the best."
The Maple Leafs won the game 5-2 against the Flyers. Matthews, who scored the first goal for the Leafs, looked happy with the team's effort.
"I thought we played the way that we need to play to be successful over 60 minutes, and thought that's what showed tonight," Matthew said.
The Maple Leafs, now 6-5-1, will play the Pittsburgh Penguins on Monday at Scotiabank Arena.
