Maple Leafs Goaltending Way Better than Anyone Expected

The Toronto Maple Leafs’ goaltending has emerged as one of the team’s most reliable assets this season, with both Anthony Stolarz and Joseph Woll delivering impressive performances. Stolarz has been especially outstanding, posting a 2.15 goals-against average (GAA) and a .927 save percentage in 17 starts. His 9-5-2 record and one shutout underscore his ability to keep the team competitive while providing a steady presence between the pipes. Stolarz’s stats position him among the league’s best, standing toe-to-toe with top-tier goaltenders like Connor Hellebuyck, who holds a 2.15 GAA and a .926 save percentage this season.

A Strong Tandem for Playoff Success, If They Stay Healthy

Joseph Woll, although with fewer games under his belt, has also been reliable. With a 2.24 GAA and a .918 save percentage in 12 games, Woll has shown that the Maple Leafs’ depth in net is formidable. Together, Stolarz and Woll offer a balanced, strong tandem that rivals the best in the NHL.

When compared to other top goalies, such as Filip Gustavsson of Minnesota (2.24 GAA, .922 SV%), Stolarz’s performance is certainly elite. As well, Woll’s numbers reflect a promising future as a dependable netminder. If both goaltenders can remain healthy, Toronto’s goaltending tandem is one of the best in the NHL, providing the foundation for a potential playoff push.

Injury Setback for Stolarz

Unfortunately, the injury to Stolarz has temporarily sidelined one of the Maple Leafs’ goalies. With Stolarz out for 4-6 weeks after a knee procedure, the team will rely heavily on Woll to maintain their strong goaltending play. However, if he can continue his solid performances, Toronto’s netminding depth should remain a strength as they navigate this challenging stretch.

One thing the Maple Leafs could do is to bring up former Stanley Cup winner, Matt Murray. It would be a no-lose situation, given that Dennis Hildeby looked pretty shaky in his last start. Given the situation, if Stolarz heals and the Maple Leafs like their goalie depth in the organization, Murray might become a trade piece.
