Maple Leafs’ Line Combinations & Pairings for Blues’ Game Tonight

As David Alter reported in The Daily Face-Off this morning, the Toronto Maple Leafs’ line combinations and defensive pairings for the game tonight against the St. Louis Blues are the following.

Forward Units

Mitch Marner

John Tavares
William Nylander

Ilya Mikheyev
David Kampf
Pierre Engvall

Kyle Clifford
Jason Spezza
Wayne Simmonds

Notes: With both Nick Ritchie and Ondrej Kase out, the team’s forward lines look a bit different that they’ve been. Mitch Marner jumps back into his old spot on the first line with center Auston Matthews and left-winger Michael Bunting.

Pierre Engvall comes back on the right of center David Kampf and left-winger Ilya Mikheyev. The third line promises to have an offensive edge to it as well as be vigorous on the penalty kill.

Defensive Pairings

Notes: With Justin Holl out, Timothy Liljegren jumps into the shutdown pairing with Jake Muzzin.

1st Powerplay Unit

Notes: Marner takes his place, as usual, on the first-unit powerplay.

2nd Powerplay Unit

Notes: It’s nice to see Liljegren and Morgan Rielly on the penalty kill.

Notes: Newly-named NHL All-Star Jack Campbell will start in goal again tonight.
