The Toronto Maple Leafs went through a very tough 2025-26 NHL season. Toronto missed the Stanley Cup Playoffs, and fired head coach Craig Berube. The Maple Leafs are looking to upgrade the roster, heading into next year.

Toronto is reportedly looking at goaltenders at the moment.

“It seems as though the Leafs are looking for an upgrade in net, with speculation starting to mount over potential links to St. Louis Blues goalie Jordan Binnington and Florida Panthers and soon-to-be unrestricted free agent backstop Sergei Bobrovsky,” The Fourth Period reported.

Toronto has a lot of needs right now.

“The Leafs are already in the market for a mid-six centre, a top-six winger and another defenceman, and could look to take a big swing for a new starting goalie,” the outlet added.

Following Berube’s firing, Toronto cast a wide net looking at possible coaching hires. The Maple Leafs were reportedly looking at what the Colorado Avalanche decided to do with Jared Bednar. If Bednar had been fired, Toronto was reportedly interested in hiring him.

That didn’t happen. The Maple Leafs instead hired Jim Hiller as the team’s next head coach.

“I’m incredibly excited for the opportunity to return to Toronto and lead the Maple Leafs,” Hiller said, per NHL.com. “This is a special organization with great players, passionate fans and high expectations. I’m looking forward to getting to work with our players and staff and doing everything we can to help this team reach its full potential.”

Hiller has worked as head coach of the Los Angeles Kings. He also spent time as an assistant in the NHL with several clubs, including the Kings and Maple Leafs.

Toronto posted just 78 points during the 2025-25 season. The Maple Leafs closed out the campaign on a seven-game losing streak.

Maple Leafs fans hope that Hiller and his new roster will bring the team back to prominence.
