The Toronto Maple Leafs officially parted ways with Mitch Marner on Tuesday, completing a sign-and-trade deal that sent the star winger to the Vegas Golden Knights.
The Leafs receive center Nicolas Roy in return, and Toronto marked the departure with a farewell post on the franchise's social media accounts.
“For the nine years of magic you brought on and off the ice Thank you, Mitchy!”
Marner, 28, signed an eight-year, $96 million extension with Vegas as part of the agreement, locking in at $12 million per year. A pending unrestricted free agent, Marner opted to forgo testing the open market and instead landed with his preferred destination.

The move ends Marner’s nine-year run in Toronto, where he played 661 regular-season games, scoring 639 points. He added 63 points in 70 postseason outings.
Marner exits as one of the most productive players in franchise history, but leaves behind a complicated legacy with critics pointing to his usual playoff shortcomings.
The Maple Leafs farewell post was immediately flooded with fan reactions, many of them skeptical about Toronto's decision of letting Marner go being a winning move by the organization.
“The most dynamic player to wear the blue & white since Wendel. A massive loss. Run out of town by paid & unpaid hacks. Just gross.” @MaureenWRC said.
“You’ll regret this decision. Terrible organization” @KimJongBettman commented.
“I liked mitchy, he was not the problem. Leafs failed Mathews and Mitch. They could have been warriors under the right master,” @DinoDyno1ca wrote.
"I’ll never forget the feeling this guy gave the city his first couple years. They were the cities saviours. They came in so good and showed so much potential it hurts so bad we got 2 series wins out of that whole 10 years cause we’re never going to see a team that skilled again," @aprill20_puff posted.
“Mitchy, you legend, skates and smiles!” @cfansglobal said.
“Never thought I’d see him in another jersey,” @onlytessaquinnn commented.
"Wish him success in Vegas. Unbelievable talent gone to waste in Toronto " @Stevesmokesgas wrote.
