According to the Toronto Maple Leafs, Matthew Knies will not return to Wednesday’s game. He appeared to have suffered an injury following a collision during a game (late in the second period) against the Columbus Blue Jackets. He went for a hit and got the worse end of it, falling backward over the blue line. It was his last shift, and he had left the bench.

Knies also collided with one of the linesmen as he was falling.

The injury adds to a growing list of setbacks for the Maple Leafs, who are already working through injuries. Some players have returned, but others are still out, including John Tavares.

Making matters worse, the Leafs were losing 4-0 to the Blue Jackets at the time of this writing.

Knies’ Injury History

The Maple Leafs may provide more news on the injury after the game. Knies, who has dealt with concussions in the past, will hopefully not be out long. If the team was being cautious in a game that was out of reach, it would make sense.
