Maple Leafs place forward Dryden Hunt on waivers

The Toronto Maple Leafs have placed forward Dryden Hunt on waivers, Sportsnet’s Elliotte Friedman reported Sunday.

Hunt, 27, has one goal in nine games with the Maple Leafs this season. The Maple Leafs originally acquired him from the Colorado Avalanche on Dec. 19 in exchange for forward Denis Malgin.

This isn’t the first time Hunt has been made available on waivers; the Avalanche nabbed him from the New York Rangers via that process back in October.

Through 37 games with the Rangers, Avalanche, and Maple Leafs this season, Hunt has recorded three points (all goals).

An undrafted player from the Western Hockey League, Hunt signed an entry-level contract with the Florida Panthers in 2017 and proceeded to spend parts of three NHL seasons with the team.

He then played one season with the Arizona Coyotes before joining the Rangers in 2021.

In 202 career NHL games with the Panthers, Coyotes, Rangers, Avalanche, and Maple Leafs, Hunt has scored 15 goals and 43 points to go along with 114 penalty minutes.

He’s under contract through the end of the 2022–23 season at a $762,500 NHL cap hit.

Hunt isn’t the only player on Sunday’s waiver wire. According to Friedman, the Avalanche waived 27-year-old winger Anton Blidh, who has yet to record a point in 13 NHL games this season.

Additionally, forward Jonny Brodzinski, 29, cleared after being waived by the New York Rangers on Saturday.
