Tavares has recorded two goals and five assists for seven points in seven games to start the season. He had two assists against Buffalo on Thursday before exiting with the injury.
Dr. Harjas Grewal — who frequently comments on the nature of hockey injuries — wrote in his tweet, “Not a great angle but looks like some inward stress to the right knee (and maybe ankle too). Mechanism most often causes MCL injuries and/or high ankle sprains (timeline depends on severity, often 4-6 weeks).”
