The Toronto Maple Leafs are continuing their playoff series with the Florida Panthers, but they also have a teammate on the back of their minds. Starting goalie Anthony Stolarz has been out since Game 1 after he was in a scary collision with Panthers forward Sam Bennett.
Stolarz was taken off the ice on a stretcher and ended up at a hospital. The goalie was discharged, and he has been recovering since.
There have been many questions about when Stolarz will return to the ice, if he is able to do so. Maple Leafs head coach Craig Berube provided the latest update on the status of his goalie after Game 3.
"(Stolarz) has not skated yet,” Leafs coach Craig Berube said of his goaltender the morning after the Leafs lost 5-4 in Game 3 to the Panthers.
Berube did say that the goalie was trending in the right direction, but he didn't offer much else. The goalie seems to be unlikely to return in this series, and the Maple Leafs surely aren't going to rush him back.
Backup goalie Joseph Woll has taken over for Stolarz, and he has helped the team grab a 2-1 series lead over the Panthers. But Woll has also seen some struggles in the net.
Through two-and-a-half games, Woll has allowed 11 goals and has an .869 save percentage. The Maple Leafs may have to rely on Woll the rest of the way, and that could potentially cause some issues.
But this is the reality that the team is in, and they will try to put their best foot forward.
