The Toronto Maple Leafs are trading defenseman Brandon Carlo to the St. Louis Blues in exchange for two picks in the third round. The picks will be 73rd and 76th overall in the 2026 NHL Draft.

The 29-year-old dressed in 55 regular-season games with the Maple Leafs last season, registering seven assists and 37 penalty minutes.

Drafted by the Boston Bruins in the second round, 37th overall, of the 2015 NHL Draft, the Colorado Springs, Colorado native is a veteran of 10 NHL seasons, including stints with the Maple Leafs and Bruins.

Overall, the 6’5, 227-pound defenseman has totaled 119 points (29 goals, 90 assists), 381 penalty minutes, and a +137 rating in 692 career regular-season games. Carlo has also recorded 14 points (five goals, nine assists) and 42 penalty minutes in 85 career postseason games.

It was earlier reported that Maple Leafs GM John Chayka was seeking multiple mid-round picks for Carlo. I’m sure he received a few offers, but the Blues get Carlo for two picks in the round.

Maple Leafs Free Up More Cap Space

Toronto frees up an additional $3.49 million in cap space by moving Carlo for picks. The Maple Leafs now have $22.28 million in cap space for Chayka to retool the roster. After a disastrous 2025-26 season, changes were bound to happen. Chayka is having a very busy first offseason as the GM in Toronto.

The sign-and-trade deal with the Tampa Bay Lightning for Darren Raddysh pushed Carlo down in the Maple Leafs lineup, so moving to St. Louis will be a fresh start for him.
