Toronto Maple Leafs forward William Nylander is a game-time decision for Tuesday’s contest against the Calgary Flames.
Nylander was ruled out of Saturday’s game against the Buffalo Sabres with an unspecified injury. He left during the third period of Friday’s game against the Sabres after getting hit by Buffalo’s Jason Zucker. Nylander leads all Maple Leafs with 14 points (three goals, 11 assists) in eight games.
“He needs to feel right. It’s hard to him to know until game time, until warmup,” Maple Leafs head coach Craig Berube said Tuesday morning.
If Nylander doesn’t suit up for Tuesday’s game, Sammy Blais is expected to enter the lineup. Blais was claimed off waivers on October 6, but has not played this season. The 29-year-old recorded 14 goals and 40 points in 51 games with the AHL’s Abbotsford Canucks.
Nylander has been primarily paired with John Tavares to start the year and has been Toronto’s offensive engine throughout November. The 29-year-old responded to an early season callout and has registered at least one point in seven games.
Calle Jarnkrok is considered doubtful for Tuesday’s game, Berube said. Jarnkrok was working late during the Leafs’ optional morning skate on Tuesday. The 34-year-old registered three goals in eight games this season and has been a bright spot among the team’s bottom-six forwards when in the lineup.
Berube also candidly weighed in on Max Domi’s relatively slow start to the season. Domi has recorded one goal in nine games to start the season and he will be counted up to generate more offence, especially as the Maple Leafs sort through a wave of injuries.
“Up and down,” Berube said Tuesday about Domi’s start to the 2025-26 season. “Missed a lot of camp. That always hurts a guy a little bit. Just kind of not fully healthy, in my opinion.”
