The Chicago Blackhawks shut out the Montreal Canadiens on Thursday night with a 2-0 win that was a historic night for goaltender Marc-Andre Fleury. The win was the 500th of his career, a milestone that only two other players — Martin Brodeur and Patrick Roy — have ever reached in an NHL career.
Fleury, 37, recorded 30 saves in the win against the Canadiens and was mobbed by his Blackhawks teammates after the final horn. Fleury, who is from Quebec, Canada, was also given a loud ovation from the Montreal crowd and a champagne celebration in the locker room.

Fleury was taken by the Pittsburgh Penguins with the first overall pick in the 2003 NHL Draft and made his debut later that year at 18 years old. He made 536 starts for the Penguins over 13 seasons before he was picked by the Vegas Golden Knights in the 2017 NHL Expansion Draft. Earlier in 2021, Fleury was traded to the Blackhawks and reportedly considered retirement before deciding to play for the team.
While Chicago began the 2021-22 season with zero wins in its first nine games, the Blackhawks now have nine wins in their last 14 games.
