Marc-Andre Fleury has 'a lot of time' for trade talks with Blackhawks

The 18-24-7 Chicago Blackhawks began Wednesday seventh in the Central Division standings and will likely look to acquire future assets before the March 21 trade deadline. Enter veteran goalie Marc-Andre Fleury, who was traded to the Blackhawks last summer after spending the previous four seasons with the Vegas Golden Knights and who is playing out the final campaign of his contract.

Per Tracey Myers of the NHL's website, Fleury said Wednesday he believes his agent has spoken with the Blackhawks about the upcoming trade deadline but added he has not yet "personally" had any discussions with club officials.

"No, not much to add to that," the 37-year-old continued. "I'm sure we will, right? But the deadline's still weeks away, a month away. Still got a lot of time."

Fleury won the Stanley Cup on three occasions with the Pittsburgh Penguins and was then claimed by Vegas in the 2017 NHL Expansion Draft. Despite his history with the Golden Knights and a team need at the position, Vegas general manager Kelly McCrimmon made it clear on Tuesday a reunion between the goaltender and club was "not going to happen."

Meanwhile, Fleury admitted he "would love a chance to win" if he's shopped before the deadline and that he wants to play at least one more season. The future Hall of Famer is 16-17-3 with a 2.88 goals-against average and .910 save percentage across 36 games in 2021-22 after winning the Vezina Trophy awarded to the league's best goalie for the prior season.
