The NHL has called both the Winnipeg Jets and the St. Louis Blues regarding the incident that occurred in warmups with Mark Scheifele and Joel Hofer.
As the first-round playoff series began between the Jets and Blues, interteam tensions are becoming very apparent, even more so now between the two clubs.
The NHL has contacted both the Winnipeg Jets and St. Louis Blues by phone after an unusual altercation between Jets captain Mark Scheifele and Blues goalie Joel Hofer in warmup before Thursday's Game 3.
League intervention has been confirmed by Sportsnet. It doesn't appear that there will be any suspensions or fines at this time, but this phone call served as a formal warning to both clubs.
As Winnipeg Free Press' Ken Wiebe indicated, Scheifele and Hofer were the two final players to exit the ice, neither one wanting to leave until the other departed.
Hofer, being a homeboy from Winnipeg, made it into the locker room first, with Scheifele lingering behind him. The theatrics weren't lost by the crowd in St. Louis, as Scheifele got ripped to shreds by deafening boos.
Despite the pre-game drama, the Blues converted their momentum into one-sided play, with a 7-2 victory, to cut their series deficit to 2-1.
This wasn't the first time that these two players waited on the ice, as a similar incident occurred four days ago, but this time at the Canada Life Centre in Winnipeg.
This wasn't the lone controversy leading into Thursday's contests. The NHL is also investigating another incident, this time involving Ottawa's Nick Cousins, who reportedly fired a puck at Toronto goaltender Anthony Stolarz in warm-up.
Winnipeg and St. Louis face each other for the third time in Game 4 on Sunday at 1 p.m. ET / 12 p.m. CT, as the Blues look to even the series at 2.
