The Winnipeg Jets have announced the playing status of Mark Scheifele for Game 6 against the Stars after the tragic announcement that his father, Brad, had passed away during the night.

The Winnipeg Jets are in a must-win situation on Saturday, trailing 3-2 to the Dallas Stars in their 2nd round series with Game 6 hours away.

There was natural doubt regarding the playing status of Jets forward Mark Scheifele, who tragically lost his father, Brad, during the night.

But Scheifele has decided that he'll, in fact, suit up and play tonight, saying that it's what his father would have wanted him to do.

If the Jets can pick up a win against the Stars, they would force a decisive Game 7 back in Winnipeg on Monday.

Scheifele has 10 points (4G, 6A) in 10 postseason games. He was forced to miss 2 games in Winnipeg's opening round series against the St. Louis Blues with a concussion.

Jets organization mourns the loss of Brad Scheifele

After news broke of the elder Scheifele's unexpected passing, the organization pledged its full support to Mark in a statement from GM Kevin Cheveldayoff.

As an organization, we're doing everything we can to support him. We wish, give, his family our most sincere condolences, and obviously ask that everybody respect his and their privacy at this time.

It was certainly unexpected this morning. I don't have many of the other details or anything like that, so certainly appreciate everyone's understanding today that it's a different day for everybody here. But, you know, we're a family, and we're going to do everything we can to support our family.
