Mark Stone lifted the Golden Knights to a 3–2 overtime win in Philadelphia on Thursday, scoring twice and capping the night with the winner at 2:13 of OT. His first-period goal extended his season-opening point streak to 14 games, while Vegas leaned on Akira Schmid’s steady performance to outlast the Flyers in a tight, defensive matchup.
Before the game, Ivan Barbashev praised Stone as “unreal,” adding, “His hockey IQ and the way he makes plays… if you have a chance to play with him, it’s unbelievable.” Stone lived up to that assessment, driving the offense throughout the night and finishing the winner in overtime.
Zach Whitecloud opened the scoring at 6:07 of the first period, burying his first goal of the season on a backhand from close range after a Flyers turnover in the neutral zone. He jumped into the rush untouched and finished the play, with Barbashev and Braeden Bowman collecting the assists.
Philadelphia responded minutes later with a sustained shift in the Vegas zone. The Flyers tied it at 3:49 when Trevor Zegras converted a pass from Travis Sanheim and Christian Dvorak. The sequence included several puck recoveries, multiple Vegas turnovers, and enough pressure to keep the Golden Knights from recording a shot between the two goals.

Stone put Vegas back in front at 7:07 of the second period. He scored his fifth goal of the season off a setup from Pavel Dorofeyev and Jack Eichel, continuing a consistent offensive stretch in which he has recorded at least one point in all 14 games he has played this year.

Philadelphia answered less than four minutes later on the power play. At 3:53, Noah Juulsen buried his first of the season, finishing a crisp passing sequence from Dvorak and Carl Grundstrom. The goal came on the Flyers’ second man-advantage of the night; Vegas had killed off the first without allowing a shot.
Physicality ramped up as the period wore on, with both sides delivering a rising number of hits in the back half of the frame.
The third period featured chances at both ends, but neither team could break the 2–2 tie. Vegas generated four shots while Philadelphia recorded five, with both clubs leaning on structure and blocked shots to keep the score level.
Schmid turned aside every look he faced, including a flurry from Cates midway through the period. Dan Vladar matched him at the other end, denying Eichel on a clean look in the final two minutes.
Hits continued to climb as both teams pushed for a late winner. Howden took the lone penalty of the period at 15:12 for elbowing, and the Golden Knights killed it off to prevent the Flyers from converting on a third power-play chance.
After a tight and physical 20 minutes, with limited space and strong defensive play, the game moved to overtime still tied 2–2.
Stone delivered the game-winner at 2:13 of overtime, finishing a clean setup from Eichel after a Philadelphia turnover in the neutral zone. The goal completed his two-goal night, after his first-period tally had already extended his season-opening point streak.
Vegas closes its road trip Saturday in Columbus against the Blue Jackets who are 13-11-6, then finally returns home to face New Jersey on December 17 where the Devils arrive at 17-12-1 with one of the fastest transition games in the league. The Knights finish the stretch with a December 20 trip to Calgary where the Flames are 12-16-4 and looking to reset after an inconsistent month.
