Matt Duchene becomes highest-scoring Nashville Predators forward in over a decade

For the first time since 2008, a Nashville Predators forward has scored more than 65 points in a season.

It’s all thanks to Matt Duchene, who hit the mark Monday night with a three-point performance against the Anaheim Ducks.

The 5-foot-11, 19- lb. forward hit the 65+ point mark for the first time since J.P. Dumont put up 65 points in the 2008-09 season. There have been a few Preds forward who have come close.

Three times, players had hit the 64-point mark since Dumont. In 2015-16, Filip Forsberg scored 33 goals and 64 points in 82 games, while he hit that point total again in 2017-18. In 2018-19, it was Ryan Johansen who hit 64 points.

While Duchene has hit the mark, Forsberg is also just two points away from getting past the elusive 64-point mark.

But something else incredible is happening in Nashville. Defenseman Roman Josi is just 23 points away from hitting the 100-point mark.

If he does it, he would join some elite company. Only five defensemen before him have ever hit the mark: Bobby Orr (six times), Paul Coffey (five), Al MacInnis (one), Brian Leetch (one) and Denis Potvin (one).

Most notably, however, is the 31-year-old would become the oldest defenseman to ever his the 100-point mark. At their oldest, Orr was 26 and Coffey was 28 hitting the mark. MacInnis was 27, Leetch was 21 and Potvin was 25.

There’s something special going on in Nashville this year, to say the least.
