Pat Brisson, the agent for Montreal Canadiens prospect Michael Hage, has shot down any speculation that the forward is looking for a way to get himself off the Canadiens. When it was
Brisson, in speaking with Tony Marinaro of the Sick Podcast, confirmed, “he’s going to end up being a Montreal Canadian player, sooner or later. I guess instead of being now, it’s going to be in a year from now.”
It was revealed that Hage will return to the University of Michigan for the 2026-27 season, rather than going pro with Montreal this season. That came as a shock to many, as public opinion is that he’s got little left to prove in college. Hage is ready for the NHL.
Marinaro said, “I’m glad you said that, Pat, right off the bat, because when the last couple of days there’s been chaos because people assume that there could be a rift between the Canadiens and Michael Hage or a rift between the Canadiens and Michael Hage’s representation. Clearly nothing has changed from a couple of years ago when the Canadiens fell in love with Michael Hage, made a trade so that they can try to acquire Michael Hage at the draft.”
Brisson responded, “…no, nothing has changed at all. So proud to be drafted by Montreal, and he’s looking forward to being a Hab, like, 100%. I mean, nothing has changed. He’s so excited, the family is, and as I said earlier elsewhere, he grew up being a Canadiens fan, and there are a lot of pictures of him and his younger brother wearing the Habs jerseys and hats, and all that, so this is a dream, hopefully that’s coming to come true in the near future.”
Does this mean that Hage can’t or won’t be traded? Perhaps the odds are a little higher now than they were before he decided to go back to college. That said, the Canadiens still see big things for Hage, and he still wants to be a Hab. It would take a trade offer that blew Montreal’s socks off to make that deal take place.
GM Kent Hughes is working on a big offseason deal and Hage might be a piece that gets that deal done.
