Michael McCarron has put pen to paper on a new, long-term deal to stay with the Minnesota Wild, the team announced on Tuesday.

McCarron, 31, is inking a six-year deal with an AAV of $3.3 million. That presents a significant pay bump for a player who had never made more than $900,000 in a single season.

McCarron was set to be a free agent this summer. After a strong stint with the Wild, who acquired the towering center at the deadline in March, McCarron was thought to have set himself up for a nice deal this offseason as one of the top available centers.

"I hear (Michael McCarron) is very close to re-signing with the Wild," The Athletic's Michael Russo said in a recent episode of The Worst Seats in the House podcast. "I think they're going to give him a lot of term to get that AAV down into that three, three-and-a-half million dollar range. Which, you know, I think he is going to be leaving a lot of money on the table. I think if he got to free agency, somebody out there would give him four or five million dollars. But, look, Michael McCarron fit in well here. Won a ton of draws. Obviously, his grit, has sneaky skill. He showed he could play up the lineup, if need be."

McCarron has now signed a deal that will keep him with Minnesota through his age 37 season. According to Russo, McCarron will have a no-move clause throughout his contract. There is a 15-team no-trade clause over the final three years of the deal.

McCarron registered five points (three goals, two assists) in 20 regular-season games with the Wild after coming over from Nashville. In the playoffs, McCarron proved a vital piece for Minnesota, registering four points (two goals, two assists) in 11 games while also winning 54.5% of his faceoffs.

The Athletic's Joe Smith wrote on Monday that McCarron was the Wild's "No. 1 internal target" this offseason. Smith added that McCarron has previously talked about his love for the current Wild group of players and how he fit into the squad, as well as having a chance to win.
