Michigan State Hockey Players Go Hollywood

Munn Ice Arena on the campus of Michigan State University has played host to many things over its 50-plus-year history. This past week, it added a new element as camera crews from a new film based on the life and history of historic Calgary Flames player Theo Fleury were in town.

Why, you may ask. Well clearly they were looking for some extras to shoot some on ice action.

The Film itself will star Kevin Zegers as Fleury according to Daniel Austin from the Calgary Herald. The crew however needed some big-time skaters to fill the shoes of the rest of the Calgary team along with the Edmonton Oilers team.

That's where the stars of Michigan State Hockey come in.

In a post shared to MSU Hockey's social media, photos showing many of the players adorned in old-school Flames and Oilers uniforms were shared.

The reigning Hobey Baker Award Winner, Isaac Howard, did his best to serve as NHL legend Mark Messier. Other Spartans featured were Gavin O'Connell, along with now former-Spartan Captain Red Savage.

It certainly provided the Spartan Hockey players more time to spend together and get some extra skating time. While also getting to do their best to replicate some of the greatest hockey players in NHL history.

The film itself doesn't have an official release date, but to think Michigan State has been involved in the project is a great opportunity for all of the players. Whenever the film comes out, it doesn't matter.

To see these deserving guys get to have a little fun after winning the Big Ten in Hockey for a second consecutive year, and the fact that both Howard and the goalie, Trey Augustine, are returning next season. There are very good vibes around the future of Michigan State Hockey.
