A very controversial player is back in the NHL, as the former Oiler and Flame, Milan Lucic, has officially signed a PTO with the St. Louis Blues.

The St. Louis Blues and President of Hockey Operations and General Manager Doug Armstrong said on Monday that they agreed on a professional tryout deal with forward Milan Lucic.

Milan Lucic, 37, last played during the 2023-24 campaign, suiting up for the Boston Bruins, registering two assists in four games played.

At the end of the month, the team put him on indefinite leave before he joined the NHL/NHLPA Player Assistance Program. Having completed the program, the league has reinstated Lucic and would like him on NHL ice again.

Late last offseason, Lucic expressed interest in making an NHL return but said he was still in the assistance program, making him ineligible to play until he was cleared by league medical staff. He was never suspended or disciplined by the league as a direct result of his charges. The Blues confirmed in their press release today that he has been cleared from the program and thus reinstated by the league.

Lucic is a BC Native and has Played a Whopping 17 NHL Seasons

Vancouver, British Columbia, is where he calls home. Experienced as he is with 17 NHL seasons, he played nine campaigns with the Bruins, four playing with the Calgary Flames, three with the Edmonton Oilers, and one with the Los Angeles Kings.

In 1,177 regular-season contests, Lucic has scored 586 points (233 goals, 353 assists) and has spent 1,301 minutes in the sin bin.

He has scored 77 points (29 goals, 48 assists) in 136 playoff games and helped Boston claim the 2011 Stanley Cup championship.

Coming to St. Louis with this opportunity, Lucic aims to show that, at an older age, he still has value in the NHL.
