
The Minnesota Wild remain busy as they acquire a veteran defenseman from the Florida Panthers today. The Wild are trading for defenseman Jeff Petry and are sending a 2026 seventh-round conditional draft pick to the Panthers. The pick would be upgraded to a 2026 fifth-round pick if the Wild win two playoff rounds and Petry played 50% of the playoff games in those two rounds. Petry this season has eight assists in 58 games. He has a minus-ten with 57 blocked shots and 59 total hits. Petry is a free agent after this season and currently carries a $0.78 cap hit.

The Edmonton Oilers drafted Petry 45th overall in the 2006 NHL Entry Draft. He made his NHL debut on December 28, 2010, where he also recorded an assist. He scored his first career goal on January 20, 2011. Petry, in 16 seasons, has played for five different teams: the Oilers, Canadiens, Red Wings, Penguins, and Panthers. He appeared in 295 games for the Oilers, recording 74 points on 17 goals and 57 assists. He had a -65 with 470 blocked shots and 568 total hits. Petry was traded to the Canadiens, where he spent the majority of his career, appearing in 508 games, recording 248 points on 70 goals and 178 assists. He had a -56 with 767 blocked shots and 1,072 total hits.
Petry spent one season with the Penguins, appearing in 61 games, recording 31 points on five goals and 26 assists. He had a plus-two with 111 blocked shots and 190 total hits. He then joined the Red Wings, where in two seasons he appeared in 117 games, recording 32 points on four goals and 28 assists. Petry had a minus-nine with 211 blocked shots and 201 total hits. He has played in 48 career Stanley Cup Playoff games, recording 13 points on five goals and eight assists. He has a minus-two with 82 blocked shots and 129 total hits.
