Minnesota Wild May Be Eyeing $120 Million Extension With Superstar: ‘I Wouldn't Be Surprised'

The Minnesota Wild have a genuine star on their hands in Kirill Kaprizov, but a recent report from Chris Johnston reveals they could be set to make him the highest paid player in the NHL.

While the Minnesota Wild have had some regular season success in recent times, they've unfortunately been unable to translate that into Stanley Cup Playoffs success despite their highly talented roster.

The biggest star on this roster is winger Kirill Kaprizov, who was on pace for an MVP level season in 2024/25 before injuries struck, and now, he's up for an extension ahead of free agency in the summer of 2026.

In his career thus far, Kaprizov has gone over 95 points on two separate occasions while being on pace for over 110 last season, and as a result, it appears he's going to get paid in a big way.

According to Insider Chris Johnston, there's a chance that Kaprizov could get over $15 million a season on his next deal, and while he may not quite be the player that Leon Draisaitl is, he means more to this Wild team than anyone, so it makes sense that they'd be willing to overpay to keep him.

If Kaprizov were to hit free agency, $14 million or more a season is all but guaranteed, and now, it's on the Wild, a team that hasn't had many stars over the past few decades to lock him up.

With training camp and players returning to their cities on the horizon, if a deal is going to get done, it's likely to happen in August or September, and after a season that could have been his career best if not for injury, expect the 28-year old to get paid.
