Pending Toronto Maple Leafs UFA forward Mitch Marner may be burning another bridge after a reported breakdown in any chance of a contract extension.
Amidst a reported breakdown in the relationship between the Toronto Maple Leafs and pending UFA forward Mitch Marner, he may officially be signaling that he's skipping town with his latest actions.
He's officially cancelled his yearly Toronto summer charity event known as the Marner All-Star Invitational.
After thoughtful consideration, we have made the difficult decision to cancel this year's event, scheduled for July 10th and 11th. The uncertainty around Mitch's summer schedule makes it challenging to plan responsibly. Out of respect for the time and commitment of our partners and supporters, we feel it's best to make this decision now. While we are disappointed not to come together this year, the Foundation will continue to honour all its commitments to charitable partners.
If this is a sign that Marner's time in Toronto is up, it could leave fans with more of a bitter taste in their mouths.
The Maple Leafs have reportedly tried talking with Marner about a potential contract extension that would keep their relationship going, but were turned away.
NHL analyst Elliotte Friedman said during Sunday's edition of his '32 Thoughts' podcast that Marner and his representation aren't engaged in contract talks with the Maple Leafs ahead of his 1st major foray into free agency.
Marner's camp is not engaged with them. And I think everybody knows the way this is going to be heading - that on July 1, he's gonna go out there, he's gonna hit the market, he's gonna pick a team, he's gonna set a contract, and he's not coming back to Toronto.
