The Montreal Canadiens traded defenseman Jayden Struble to the Nashville Predators for a 2027 second round pick (originally acquired from the Vegas Golden Knights) early Friday night.
The trade comes just a day after Jayden Struble was held out of the lineup as a healthy scratch during Thursday night’s matchup against his new team, the Nashville Predators. Adam Engstrom made his season debut as Struble’s replacement on Thursday night.

Struble played in the first three games of the season with the Canadiens, where he was held pointless and had an even plus-minus rating. He recorded four hits and three blocked shots while averaging 12:05 in ice time to start the season.
The Cumberland, RI, native was drafted 47th overall by the Montreal Canadiens during the 2019 NHL Entry Draft. Struble played a total of 174 games with the Canadiens across four seasons, in which he scored seven goals and 35 points. He has a career plus-minus rating of +3 and 167 penalty minutes while playing an average of 14:21 per night. Struble also recorded 364 hits during his time with the Canadiens.
The 25-year-old defenseman is in the final year of a two-year $2.83 million contract that he signed with the Montreal Canadiens in the summer of 2025. He will be a restricted free agent with the Predators at the end of the 2026-27 season.
Now that the Montreal Canadiens have moved on from Jayden Struble by sending him to the Predators, this leaves the team with six healthy defensemen on the roster. Meanwhile, Kaiden Guhle‘s return from injury is just around the corner, meaning the Canadiens will be back to having seven defensemen soon.
Along with Kaiden Guhle, the Canadiens have Alexandre Carrier, Noah Dobson, Adam Engstrom, Lane Hutson, Mike Matheson, and Arber Xhekaj that are on their roster. They also have 2023 fifth overall pick David Reinbacher waiting for his opportunity in the AHL with the Laval Rocket.
