The Montreal Canadiens picked up a 4-3 win over the Sabres last night in a shootout. They will play the second half of a back-to-back tonight as they’ll face the Washington Capitals. Montreal today recalled defenseman David Reinbacher from their AHL affiliate the Laval Rocket. The Canadiens had an active roster spot available so they didn’t have to require a corresponding move.

The Canadiens had Kaiden Guhle activated from injured reserve after trading defenseman Jayden Struble to Nashville last week. But with Mike Matheson out they needed defensive reinforcements.

The Canadiens drafted Reinbacher fifth overall in the 2023 NHL Entry Draft. Reinbacher has appeared in two career NHL games recording an assist and he’s even in plus/minus.

He has appeared in four games for Laval this season. He has two assists, is a plus-three and has 14 penalty minutes. Reinbacher has appeared in 82 games for the Rocket over four seasons. He has 36 points on nine goals and 27 assists. He’s a +32 with a power-play goal, a shorthanded goal, and two game-winning goals. In 17 Calder Cup Playoff games he has six points on two goals and four assists. He’s a plus-one with a power-play goal.
