Multiple reports indicate the Chicago Blackhawks have acquired Marc-Andre Fleury from Vegas; may retire

Multiple news outlets are reporting that the Vegas Golden Knights have traded Marc-Andre Fleury to the Chicago Blackhawks. The current Vezina winner has been rumored to be moved since last season.

Blackhawks acquire Marc-Andre Fleury

Fleury was 26-10-0 with six shutouts, a .928 save percentage and a 1.98 goals-against average for the Vegas Golden Knights in the regular season. Fleury partnered with Robin Lehner to capture the William M. Jennings Trophy as the goaltenders on the squad that allowed the fewest goals in 2020-21.

The Blackhawks traded forward Mikael Hakkarainen in exchange for Fleury and will assume his full cap hit of $7,000,000. This was obviously a cap savings maneuver for Vegas who now have $12M in cap space but some of that will go to Alec Martinez who will be extending for 3 years.

Vegas will also be looking to add to their offense and may acquire Vladimir Tarasenko next.

Marc-Andre Fleury may retire

Reports are surfacing that Fleury was notified of the trade via Twitter. Additionally, there is some talk that he will speak with his family about possibly retiring.
