New Details Emerge on Kirill Kaprizov Contract Talks

The Minnesota Wild are in a curious spot as the NHL offseason continues. The team has been dealing with the restricted free agency of young star Marco Rossi, with the two parties being in a stalemate.

Part of this could be because the Wild want to have as much cap space as possible when they discuss an extension with star Kirill Kaprizov. It has been very quiet on the Kaprizov front as well, leading some to believe that a new extension may not happen.

But NHL insiders Joe Smith and Michael Russo of The Athletic discussed the latest around the entire situation. It seems that the two sides will talk in person when training camp starts up.

"The Wild and Kaprizov’s camp are taking a breather, with the next step likely coming in a face-to-face meeting with Guerin when the Russian winger arrives in the Twin Cities next month. With a deal this big, you have to imagine the team wants to make sure nothing is being lost in translation while Kaprizov is in Moscow," wrote Smith and Russo.

Additionally, insider David Pagnotta noted that the deal will likely be in the $14-$15 million range when all is said and done.

Kaprizov is one of the best scorers in the entire NHL, and this would be a big payday for him. Minnesota would be banking on him continuing this form and being a player who could help lead the team to a Stanley Cup title.

Last season with the Wild, Kaprizov scored 25 goals and put up 31 assists over 41 games played. His production continued into the playoffs, with the star scoring five goals and four assists over six games.

It seems that the contract extension will likely happen between Kaprizov and the Wild. But how this all impacts Rossi remains very much up in the air.
