New Jersey Devils 2026-27 Player Projections: Jonas Siegenthaler

The New Jersey Devils are facing a ton of pressure heading into the 2026-27 season. They have a strong team, but last season, they crumbled and missed the postseason after a solid start. The Devils are determined to not let that happen again.

Each player has a role to fill, and as we gear up for the season, we can start predicting how each player will perform as we continue our Devils’ player projections, now looking at the defense. Next up is Jonas Siegenthaler.

2025-26 Performance

In the 2025-26 season, Siegenthaler played in all 82 games and recorded all 16 of his points through assists. He was one of only five players to play in every game last season and one of only two defensemen; the other was Brenden Dillon.

Siegenthaler recorded his first assist of the season on Oct. 22, earning the only assist on Jesper Bratt’s empty-net goal. His assists were sporadic throughout the season, giving him points here and there. However, his job is not to score points; he’s there to keep the blue line strong. Unfortunately, he recorded his worst plus/minus of the career with a minus-9. Despite this minus-9 record, he was still a solid member of the Devils’ defense in 2025-26.

Expectations for 2026-27

Heading into the 2026-27 season, the Devils will need Siegenthaler to defend the blue line, just like with the rest of the defensemen. Last season, Siegenthaler played on the first defensive pairing alongside Dougie Hamilton. Siegenthaler remained a steady fixture on the left side of the first defense pairing, even when injuries caused line changes. Both players remain on the team for 2026-27, and the Devils will need them to step up and perform well.

Siegenthaler is also heading into the second to last season on his current contract with the Devils. With another contract on the line in 2027-28, there is more pressure to have a strong performance this season, in the hopes of receiving a contract extension early.

Upcoming Milestones

At the close of the 2025-26 season, Siegenthaler ended with 449 NHL games under his belt. He will need to play in just 51 games this season to reach his 500th NHL game, which is an incredible milestone for any NHL player. As long as Siegenthaler remains healthy, his 500th game will be an easy goal to reach, especially with the increase to 84 games this season.

Although Siegenthaler has been around the NHL for eight seasons now, he doesn’t have the greatest offensive prowess. In 449 games, he has only scored 10 goals and has recorded 72 assists. With 82 points total to his name, there’s a chance he hits the 100 total point milestone this season, which would be a great mark to reach. Unless Siegenthaler has a major breakout season with offense, it doesn’t look like he will be able to reach the 100 total assist mark as well. Maybe he’ll surprise us.

Projections for 2026-27

My bold prediction for Siegenthaler is that he will stay healthy for another full season. In 2023-24 and 2024-25, Siegenthaler faced injuries, keeping him sidelined for part of the season. In 2025-26, he remained healthy and played in all 82 games.

With 84 games this season, the Devils will need their strong defensemen to remain healthy throughout the duration of the regular season. Siegenthaler can step up and be one of these defenseman for New Jersey.
