The timeline for the announcement of Connor McDavid's contract extension with the Edmonton Oilers might have been confirmed by the hosts of the “2 Mutts Hockey” podcast.
According to the podcast, in a report published on X on Sunday, the extension is already agreed upon and will be made public shortly after the Team Canada orientation camp concludes at the end of August.
"We are hearing that the contract extension for Connor McDavid will most likely happen after the Team Canada Orientation Camp, which is August 26 to 28 in Calgary," the account reported. "The plan is to announce the contract extension before the Captain Skates begin and Training Camp starts.
"We believe it could be a two-year deal or a four-year deal as the @EdmontonOilers already know McDavid won’t be signing an eight-year extension this time around. The conversation on AAV has gone from $16M to around $17.5M from what we’ve been told.
"The Oilers still have other work to do to make sure this extension happens and those things are being worked on over the next 3-4 weeks as Stan Bowman & Jeff Jackson have a busy August ahead of them."

The "2 Mutts Hockey Podcast" report aligns with comments made by Oilers insider Bob Stauffer at the end of July, who suggested McDavid’s deal could be finalized and announced before the end of August.
“I’d say by Aug. 28, which is a Thursday, a month from today, I could foresee a scenario where extensions are done on Podkolzin, Walman, Ekholm and McDavid,” Stauffer said.

The Canadian camp, set for August 26–28 in Calgary, is part of preparations for the 2026 Winter Olympics.
McDavid is among the 42 invitees and is considered a lock for the final roster bound for Italy next February.
According to “2 Mutts Hockey,” the Oilers plan to announce the extension before Edmonton's captain skates and training camp begin in September.
All signs point toward McDavid signing a short-term contract, either two or four years, with an average annual value projected between $16 million and $17.5 million.
McDavid, 28, is entering the final season of the eight-year, $100 million contract he signed in 2017. He became eligible to sign an extension on July 1.
Even on a two- or four-year term, the deal would make him the highest-paid player in the NHL when it begins in 2026–27.
