New York Islanders: News You May Have Missed

There’s a bit of a lull in hockey news. The dog days of the off-season stretch on, and the news may be a tad slow. There’s so much to come this season, and we have plenty to look forward to. But if that’s not enough, here are a few pieces of news that you may have missed.

Following up on an article from several weeks ago, fans had their voices heard when it came to the New York Islanders selecting their third jersey options. The navy blue lighthouse design was named the winner for the alternate option. Players, fans, and everyone in between had their voices heard and wanted to be included in picking the third or alternate jersey fans will see in 2027-2028. It was fun across the entire fanbase to be involved.

It’ll be a big couple of seasons for jerseys, not only in the Islanders club but also across the league. The National Hockey League has announced that a retro option is coming back. It will serve as a bit of a throwback for fans and, at the same time, something new. The Hometown Remix program, a collection to be revealed for the 2026-2027 season, will take the place of the Adidas Reverse Retro collection fans previously saw. It will be available for all thirty-two teams and will include elements, a nod to each team, and local inspiration. What does this mean for Islanders fans? Well, obviously, another jersey for fans to wear.

Gotham TV has possibly been the thorn in many fans’ sides. MSG Networks and YES Network signed a deal to make DAZN the primary and exclusive streaming service for both MSG and YES Network. Otherwise, things remain the same. Well, hopefully that includes some happier fans. The official date on which the migration occurs will be announced in the near future.

It wouldn’t be a proper off-season without Matt Martin hosting his annual camp at Northwell Ice Center. This is more than a week-long summer camp for young hockey fans and players. It brings out guests like Matthew Schaefer, Ilya Sorokin, Alexander Romanov, Cal Clutterbuck, and several others.

The social media content has had a large role in getting fans excited, and maybe a little invested, in the upcoming season and all that will unfold. While hundreds of campers were looking forward to getting ice time, they’re also looking to current and past players for encouragement, fun, and help them get better at a game they all love. The Islanders released not only the upcoming season’s schedule but also the theme nights that are a staple throughout the season. It’s safe to say those games excite fans of all ages. Ones to note this year are the usual bobblehead nights, Pride Night, and a matinee Halloween matchup, which is sure to bring out some great costumes. In addition to those, the usual meaningful games are included. A game to honor military heroes and the special Hockey Fights Cancer game. More information can be found on the Islanders’ social media pages and website
