New York Rangers rumors around Alexandar Georgiev; and recent buyout candidates

The New York Rangers are getting calls about goaltender Alexandar Georgiev. According to Frank Seravalli, several teams have asked about his availability. He writes, “teams who have inquired with new Rangers GM Chris Drury believe the ask to be a first-round pick as part of any trade opportunity on Georgiev.”

Alexandar Georgiev is not being shopped

Several teams are looking for goaltending this summer, so it’s really no surprise that other GM’s look at the Rangers with Igor Shesterkin, Keith Kinkaid, and Georgiev see an opportunity.

The fact that Drury is asking for a first round pick indicates to me he’s not serious about moving Georgiev, and isn’t shopping him. However; if someone is crazy enough to give him a first Drury would be foolish not to take it with Kinkaid in the fold.

“I think we’ve got two really good young goaltenders. Everything Benoit Allaire told me is that we’ve got top young goaltending, and they can take another step,” Gerard Gallant said in a recent interview. “Benoit Allaire has been there a long time, he knows the goalies better than I do, so I’ll lean on him for that.”

Georgiev is 25 years-old and has one more year left on his deal.

Rangers and the recent buyout candidates

In the last few days; Zach Parise, Ryan Suter, and Keith Yandle have been bought out. The Rangers do not need Parise but both 36 year-old Suter and 34 year-old Yandle represent some intriguing possibilities.

Suter and Yandle are both left handed veterans which the Rangers are rumored to be looking to add. Of the two, Suter likely makes the most sense to add if he was willing to play third pair minutes behind K’Andre Miller and Ryan Lindgren.

The question I have is what are the Rangers really looking to do here? If the answer is to take less pressure off Miller and move him to the third pair, then Yandle makes more sense.

Just some food for thought as ultimately, I don’t believe either will be in NY come the fall.
