The New York Rangers have picked up a young center from the Vegas Golden Knights, signing Brendan Brisson to a 1-year contract.
Now that the NHL's free agency period has been underway for a week, multiple players have changed professional addresses and are now set to play in new cities.
Players like Mitch Marner, K'Andre Miller, Noah Dobson, Nikolaj Ehlers, Vladislav Gavrikov, Mikael Granlund, Dmitry Orlov, Pius Suter, and many others have all gotten themselves new contracts with new clubs.
The New York Rangers, who signed Gavrikov from the Los Angeles Kings, have re-upped one of their own, formerly of the Vegas Golden Knights.
Center Brendan Brisson has signed a 1-year, 2-way deal with an AAV (average annual value) of $775,000.
Brisson, who was taken 29th overall by the Golden Knights in the 2020 NHL Entry Draft, was acquired by the Rangers on March 6, the day before this year's Trade Deadline, from the Golden Knights in exchange for Reilly Smith, who returned to Vegas. He was an original Misfit on the expansion club of 2017-18 and later helped them win the Stanley Cup in 2023.
Brisson became the latest Golden Knights player to play with the Rangers, which includes goaltender Jonathan Quick, along with Smith.
Brisson has played just 24 NHL games so far in his young professional career and has 8 points (2G, 6A). He went scoreless in 9 games played for Vegas this year before the trade, mostly spending time with the AHL affiliate Henderson Silver Knights.
After the trade to the Rangers, he mostly played for their AHL affiliate Hartford Wolf Pack, and had 6 points (2G, 4A).
