New York Rangers win NHL Draft Lottery, Alexis Lafreniere sweepstakes

We're likely about to find out if Alexis Lafreniere knows the words to "New York, New York."

On Monday, the New York Rangers won the No. 1 pick of the 2020 NHL Draft via the Lottery that gifted the Big Apple club the opportunity to select the 18-year-old superstar widely viewed as the best available player in his draft class.

The Rangers, Pittsburgh Penguins, Minnesota Wild, Edmonton Oilers, Florida Panthers, Nashville Predators, Toronto Maple Leafs and Winnipeg Jets all had a 12.5 percent chance of winning the top pick. Those clubs suffered defeats in their Stanley Cup Qualifier series inside the bubble sites of Toronto and Edmonton.

The Rangers will be called to officially name Lafreniere as the team's selection on Oct. 9 unless the draft date is rescheduled.
