The Dallas Stars have entered the new season with high expectations, but some analysts believe the margin for error may be smaller than before.
On the DLLS Stars Podcast, insider Zach Dooley shared his thoughts on the team's offseason, raising both concerns and optimism.
Dooley pointed out that Dallas lost some important depth pieces compared to past years, which could leave the team relying heavily on its young core. At the same time, he believes the Stars have the top-end talent needed to overcome those challenges.
On the show, Dooley explained that while the Stars remain one of the league's strongest contenders, the lineup doesn't feel quite as deep.
"I look at their offseason, and the depth is not what it was,"Dooley said.
"I think it's that year where the group of guys who are 24 or 25, Johnston, Hintz, Robertson, they need to carry the team."

The conversation then shifted to how far this core can take Dallas in the playoffs. Despite the concerns, Dooley made it clear that if the Stars' young leaders rise to the occasion, they could still be the team to beat in the Western Conference.
"If that group can carry the team the way I think they're capable of, I'd have no hesitation in picking them as the team that comes out of the West."
Dooley's comments reflect a balance many fans are feeling: some nervousness about losing experienced depth, but also excitement about what players like Wyatt Johnston, Roope Hintz, and Jason Robertson can deliver.
I think he's right, this feels like the year where the Stars' young core has to fully step into the spotlight and prove they can lead.
