NHL Analyst Links Star Minnesota Wild Forward to Winnipeg Jets Through Offer Sheet

NHL analyst Evan Waldner has linked the Minnesota Wild star Marco Rossi to the Jets, as he would complement Nikolaj Ehlers nicely, by extending an offer sheet.

The Winnipeg Jets were dominant in 2024-25, capturing the Presidents' Trophy through elite goaltending and a rich, well-rounded roster. But even better teams have weaknesses, and for the Jets, faceoffs were an undisputed weakness.

Star center Mark Scheifele had a 49.4% faceoff win rate, and so did second-liner Vladislav Namestnikov's 46.1%. Adam Lowry (51.8%) and Morgan Barron (52.1%) fared a little better on the bottom six, but the second line was the problem.

Namestnikov, valuable as he is on a depth line, just isn't the kind of player who fits to play in the middle of a contender's second line.

Enter Marco Rossi. The 23-year-old Minnesota Wild center, an impending restricted free agent, could be the Jets' ticket, per NHL analyst Evan Waldner.

'So, what's the solution to the Jets' 2C problem? One name stands out: Marco Rossi.'

Rossi had 24 goals and 60 points in 82 contests this year, showing strong two-way play with consistent even-strength and power-play production.

He'd be a great addition alongside Cole Perfetti, joining to form a smart, lightning-quick duo who could also complement Nikolaj Ehlers if he stays in Winnipeg.

Rossi's future with the Wild is uncertain. Asked about re-signing, he replied, «I don't know, we'll see,» fueling speculation he could be available. That opens the door for an offer sheet, and the Jets might be bold enough to make one.

A successful offer sheet for Rossi would cost the Jets three draft picks

If they offer Rossi a $6-$8 million offer sheet, Winnipeg would be obligated to give Minnesota their 2026 first, second, and third-round picks as compensation. It's a costly price, but for an actual top-six center with upside, it could be worth it.

Regardless of Ehlers' status or the rumour surrounding Nikita Chibrikov's possible promotion, the Jets need more offence. Rossi could be the missing link to solidify their second line, and their Cup aspirations.
