The Boston Bruins traveled to Anaheim on Wednesday night, hoping to snap a six-game losing streak in the fourth matchup of their five-game road trip. Unfortunately for Boston, things didn’t go too well.
The Ducks struck first with Leo Carlsson netting his 17th goal of the season. Anaheim then took control in the second period, scoring three times while the Bruins managed just one—a power-play goal from David Pastrnak. The third period was more of the same, as the Ducks added two more goals to Boston’s one, sealing a 6-2 win.
Meanwhile, in that second period, Bruins defenseman Michael Callahan was given a double-minor penalty for high-sticking after making contact with Ducks forward Jansen Harkins. The two would later drop the gloves.
The NHL's Department of Player Safety would end up reviewing the incident, and on Thursday, announced, "Callahan has been fined $2,018.23, the maximum allowable under the Collective Bargaining Agreement, for cross-checking Anaheim Ducks forward Jansen Harkins."
Callahan is in his first NHL season after spending the last several years at the AHL level. The 25-year-old has appeared in 14 games and is still looking for his career NHL point.
On Wednesday night, he saw 14:14 minutes of ice time and recorded one shot.
