Pittsburgh Penguins star Evgeni Malkin is reportedly being fined the highest amount possible for his actions in Saturday game vs. Winnipeg.

The NHL announced the news this morning after the three-time Cup winner and franchise great was assessed a minor penalty for slashing Jets defender Logan Stanley in the first period of yesterday's 5-2 loss.

The fine was far from Malkin's first run-in with the league. Throughout his storied 20-season career, the Russian-born Conn Smythe winner has been fined on four separate occasions and received two suspensions from Gary Bettman's NHL — including a similar punishment last season.

Malkin slapped with maximum NHL fine

In a release shared by the NHL's Player Safety department, the league revealed that Malkin will be hit with a $5,000 fine — the highest amount that can be levied under the current CBA.

"Pittsburgh’s Evgeni Malkin has been fined $5,000, the maximum allowable under the CBA, for slashing Winnipeg’s Logan Stanley," the NHL announced on X. Adding, "The money goes to the Players’ Emergency Assistance Fund."

Fans react to punitive punishment

"How many times does Malkin have to do this same thing before you actually discipline him??" a user asked.

"malkin didnt do anything wrong but alright," another commented.

"he did nothing wrong," a fan posted.

"Nice to see the nhl protect its superstars from unnecessary abuse " another person replied.

"This time, a stick infraction in the offensive zone cost Malkin more than two minutes in the penalty box," another user said.

"they really hate to see a big sexy man winning smh," a Pittsburgh fan shared.

Malkin was assessed the same exact penalty less than a year ago when he was fined $5,000 for slashing Bruins defenseman Mason Lohrei in a game on Nov. 30.

In both cases, Evgeni was immediately penalized. But the NHL felt that a handful of minutes in the penalty box wasn't quite enough for the actions taken by the two-time Art Ross winner.
