NHL best bets: Following some high-profile offenses for Wednesday

Tonight's NHL slate is just two games, but we're treated to some of the best offenses in the league, which should hopefully make for a fun evening. There are multiple approaches to matchups like these, and we've pulled out three bets in particular.

Over 66.5 total shots on goal in PIT-COL (-125 Barstool)

I've been debating how I'd like to attack this game from a SOG perspective, as plenty of guys look solid, albeit with slightly-juiced prices. Kris Letang, for example, seems to be contractually obligated to pummel Colorado with shots, finishing with 4+ shots in five straight meetings and 3+ shots in 10 of 11. Nathan MacKinnon is always a good bet to go over his shots prop, typically landing at six or higher lately.

Instead of loading up a player to get involved, I'm opting for this absolute market on Barstool that gives us the pleasure of liking every single shot we see come through.

To me, this is a very soft number. These are two of the highest-volume offenses in the NHL. Colorado is averaging 34.7 shots per game at home over their past 10 and Pittsburgh is averaging 36.7 shots per game on the road in the same stretch. If those averages stay true today, that slots in at 71.4 projected shots per game.

The Penguins have been loose to shots all year and the Avalanche with a few injuries should get back to allowing the 30+ shots we've seen for much of this season. Both teams also hand out over 3.0 power play opportunities per game, which typically helps buoy the shot totals we see.

The kicker to me is these two's recent meetings, all of which have been shot-fests. Over the past two years, Pittsburgh and Colorado have met three times. The average shot total in those games? 78.3. That is quite the gap between the set line here, and I'm all over it.

Colorado Avalanche over 3.5 goals, including OT (-115 DK)

The Avalanche lost to Pittsburgh 2-1 in February, but I'm liking a more open and high-paced affair tonight. This is a relatively straightforward read. Colorado is averaging 3.9 goals per game at home in their last 10 games and have scored five goals in three straight.

Pittsburgh is allowing 3.6 goals per game as the visitors over their past 10 and have allowed opponents to score four or more goals in four straight on the road.

I'm seeing a power play edge for the Avalanche that makes me want to grab a piece of their goals here. No team is scoring a power play at a higher rate than Colorado over the past 20 days, a 35.5% rate. Meanwhile, the Penguins penalty kill has been anything but stout, coming in at just 77.4% over the last 20 days - a bottom half of the league mark.

Tristan Jarry is expected in net tonight for Pittsburgh. Jarry has allowed 4+ goals in five of his last eight games and has seen 13 goals scored against him from the Avalanche in his past three meetings with the team (4.33/game).

I think both of Nathan MacKinnon and Mikko Rantanen look great for goals tonight, but I'll opt for this approach and root on goals galore.

.5u: Connor McDavid & Leon Draisaitl goals (+285 FD)

This can be found on FanDuel under the Player Performance Parlays option, and the SGP market should also eventually open up for this game. This exact combination is +165 on DraftKings, so be sure to load them up on FD if you care to join.

The analysis is relatively simple. Edmonton should have their way with Arizona tonight, just as they have so often in the past. The Oilers have poured on 5+ goals in four straight meetings with the Coyotes, including 8-2 in their last game. Arizona is on a back-to-back, allowing nearly 37 shots per game and 3.4 goals per game on the road over their last 10. It's hard to see Edmonton not cruising here. They're averaging 4.7 goals per game at home over their last 10, and it's these two so often involved.

McDavid has a goal in 64% of home games this season and Draisaitl has netted one at a 54% rate. Both guys have scored in three straight games against Arizona, and with the volume of power plays likely coming down the runway, they should get plenty of chances to extend that streak.

This is just a price and offering I couldn't pass up.
