NHL bets: Let's order up another round of shots

Good question, yes, we did cash our 'MNF' bankroll builder! That's exactly the way we wanted to start the week because now we can roll over some of those winnings into some beautiful-looking spots on the ice.

NHL is the only major sport in action tonight, so hope you like shots, because we're ordering quite a few.

Trusting the studs in volume spots

Looking at the shots allowed per game numbers can be a great way to begin your NHL prop research. A few teams stand out: the Montreal Canadiens and the New York Islanders. Montreal is allowing the third-most shots per game, and New York is allowing the second-most, and that vulnerability actually only looks worse on home ice, interestingly enough.

Opposite them, we have a few high-volume guys who should be able to deliver.

Nikita Kucherov of Tampa Bay has 4+ shots in four of his last five on the road, averaging 9.2 attempts per game. He's hit 5+ shots in three straight road games and six of his last eight overall.

He also doesn't seem fazed by playing two nights in a row, as he's gone over tonight's line in 10 of his last 16 games on zero days' rest.

Kirill Kaprizov figures to take advantage of New York's penalty issues, as the Wild's top player is leading the league in power-play shots. That has helped power some high SOG volume, as Kaprizov has 6+ shots in three of his last four games. He logged five and six SOG in two games against the Islanders last year.

Here's how we're attacking our two favorite shot looks of the night.

Betting:

  • 1u: Kucherov & Kaprizov over 3.5 SOG (+213 DraftKings)
  • .5u: Kucherov 5+ shots (+175 FanDuel)
  • .5u: Kaprizov 5+ shots (+145 FD)

We don't hate looking to either for some goals as well if you'd like. We'll stick with rooting on plenty of pucks on net. Enjoy tonight's NHL slate!

In the news ...

Chargers handle Jets, move to 4-4 — The Los Angeles Chargers grabbed a much-needed road win over the New York Jets, taking it 27-6 on "Monday Night Football" and moving to .500 on the season. Zach Wilson was sacked eight times and the Jets were held out of the end zone again, falling to 4-4. Both the Chargers and Jets are a game back of the wild-card spots, with three AFC North teams all at 5-3. Los Angeles is +110 to make the playoffs while New York is +250.

Ja'Marr Chase might be set to miss some time — It sounds like Cincinnati's momentum might stall with the latest news out from their star wide receiver. Ja'Marr Chase alluded to the fact he may miss some time with a back injury, saying "I'm just going to support my teammates ... everybody is counting on me to get healthy." That's not what the Bengals, who are on a four-game winning streak, want to be dealing with right now. Cincy is +235 to miss the playoffs if you believe that Chase may be gone for an extended period.

MLB award finalists named Monday — We'll learn who won MLB's individual awards next week, but we now know who the finalists are, which was announced on Monday. Corey Seager and Marcus Semien of the World Series champion Texas Rangers were both named finalists for AL MVP alongside Shohei Ohtani. Ronald Acuna is the MVP favorite in the NL, but he is joined by Mookie Betts and Freddie Freeman. As for the Cy Young, among others, we've got Zac Gallen, Blake Snell and Logan Webb for the National League, and Gerrit Cole, Kevin Gausman and Sonny Gray in the American League.
