NHL Canadian Trade Rumours: Oilers, Maple Leafs & Canucks

Some days the rumour mill spins a little hotter than others, and today feels like one of those days. A handful of big names are in play, contenders are checking prices, and a couple of teams that expected better seasons are now rethinking their approach. Nothing is certain yet, but conversations around the league are getting louder, especially as the deadline closes in.

This one touches on everything—defence targets in Edmonton, Toronto considering a softer sell than expected, and Vancouver listening to propositions on a veteran blueliner. None of these stories is finished, but each one is pointing in a direction worth watching.

Rumour One: Oilers Looking for Defensive Upgrades

In Edmonton, the search for help on the blue line is very real. Insider Elliotte Friedman says the connection to Oliver Ekman-Larsson isn’t just speculation—they’re legitimately in that mix. The Oilers are also keeping a close eye on Justin Faulk. Both players fit the style Edmonton wants: smooth skaters who can help push play.

The sticking point is always the cap. Ekman-Larsson’s $3.5 million hit is much easier for the Oilers to squeeze in than Faulk’s $6.5 million. They’re trying to improve without blowing up their structure, and that’s a tight needle to thread.

Rumour Two: Maple Leafs Lean Toward a Soft Sell

The Maple Leafs, after a flat return from the Olympic break, are preparing for what’s being called a “soft sell.” Management isn’t blowing anything up, but they are listening closely to expiring contracts. Bobby McMann and Joseph Woll are drawing interest, and Toronto seems willing to move pieces if the fit is right.

It’s the retool that keeps them competitive while freeing up flexibility.

Rumour Three: Canucks Receive Offers on Tyler Myers

Out West, the Canucks confirmed they’ve received multiple offers for Tyler Myers. President Jim Rutherford says they’re working through the process and deciding how serious the conversations are. Myers has value as a big-minute, right-shot veteran, and contenders always look for that kind of insurance.
